If you're having trouble with your device's facial recognition sensor, we've got some solutions t. Here's what you can do:
1. Update your software
iOS devices:
- Back up your device with iCloud or on your computer
- Plug your device into a power source and connect to Wi-Fi
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update
- Select the update you want to install
Android devices:
- Go to Settings > System > System update
- Follow the steps that appear on the screen
2. Clean your device
iOS devices:
- Use wipes with 70% isopropyl alcohol, 75% ethyl alcohol, or disinfectant wipes
- Use a lint-free cloth or damp soft tissue to clean your device
- Be careful not to scratch your phone or get excess moisture near the charging/headphones port
- Avoid using household cleaning products or compressed air
Android devices:
- Use distilled water or disinfectant and a lint-free, soft, microfiber cloth to clean your phone
- Be careful not to use harsh materials or cleaning products that could damage your phone
- Avoid using household cleaning products or compressed air
3. Set up your Face ID

To troubleshoot Face ID:
- Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode
- Make sure Face ID is set up and any features you want to use with it are on
- Ensure your face is not blocked and that your eyes, nose, and mouth are visible
- Check that you're facing the TrueDepth camera
- If you wear glasses or something else that covers your face, try using Face ID without them
- Verify that you're holding your device an arm's length or closer away from your face
If you recently changed your appearance and Face ID stopped working, you can try setting up an alternative appearance or resetting Face ID:
- Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode
- Enter your passcode if prompted
- Click "Set Up an Alternative Appearance" or "Reset Face ID"
- When finished, click "Set up Face ID" to approve it
